GUNG HAY FAT CHOY!
Or Happy New Year in Chinese!
Sandra came in and helped us celebrate the Chinese New Year. She brought in Chinese food with chopsticks, fortune cookies, Chinese candy, and a few other surprises up her sleeve for our celebration. We started out by making paper lanterns (unfortunately none of my pictures turned out. Sorry!) Then we came downstairs for a Chinese feast.
Most of the kids were so excited to try some of the Chinese food. Others were a little curious but not necessarily excited to try it.
Sandra encouraged each of the kids to try and use their chopsticks. She showed each of them how to hold them (I can not work chopsticks to save my life). Most were successful. I was amazed out how they each made them work.
Some seemed to have done this before, or at least picked up the skill quickly.
After learning about and exploring and tasting China, it was time to head back up and get ready for our Chinese New Year Parade. Miss Sandra made an amazing Dragon head for our parade, and then had each of the kids cut out triangles out of white foam to help make the dragons teeth.
Once the dragon had his pointy teeth and black eyes put into place, it was time to head downstairs and get ready for the parade march.
After all the kids took their places and were lined up, it was time to parade down the street.
We had so much fun learning about China. You parents always have so many fun and creative ideas when teaching these different countries. I will always remember our fun Chinese New Year parade. Thanks Sandra for bringing in your knowledge on China and sharing it with our class.
