Look Out World...Here We Come to save You!

What an AMAZING field trip we had last week. Mrs. H really pulled off one majorly awesome event. The kids learned so much about how to help

REDUCE, REUSE, and RECYCLE.

We started off our field trip with Mrs. H reading a few books about how we can reduce the amount of water we waste and the amount of energy we use. Then it was time for their Super Hero (Save the Earth) Costumes. How adorable are those. Mrs. H truly went all out. Then it was time to immediately take what we were learning into practice. Off we WALKED to Mrs. H's house. The neighbors were so interested in what we were doing (I got so many comments and questions on our way back home.)

Of course Mrs. H's House was all decked out with Earth Day paraphernalia. Once all of the kids were at the outside of the front door. Mrs. H explained to the kids that she had left the lights on in the house and was wasting energy. So off the superheros went and turned off the lights throughout the house to save the Earth one tiny bit at a time.

Oh my goodness, what is that out in the backyard???

Oh dear, somehow there is so much garbage spread around the yard. Wait...it's not garbage, it's RECYCLABLE PRODUCTS! The kids raced out back to clean up all the recyclables and placed them in the appropriate recycle bin.

After our superheros learned about what can and can't be recycled, it was time to learn another energy and waste saving tip. Mrs. H had reusable bags for the kids. Each child learned that it is better to try and take reusable shopping bags to the Grocery Store when we go so that we aren't using and wasting so many plastic shopping bags. (Our family is definitely trying to do better on this little topic).

Each child got to put a GREEN hand print in the middle of the World that was on the bag. Once again, ADORABLE!

Next it was time for snack. The kids gobbled up fruit and animal crackers. Once everyone was finished we talked about another kind of recycling. I like to think of it as ORGANIC RECYCLING (or as most people know it as COMPOSTING.)

The kids loved the composting portion of the field trip. They were getting their hands dirty and playing with worms and making a new composting bucket with their left over snacks.




Some chose to not get their hands dirty (which was fine) and others were in elbow deep into the dirt.

Back inside we went to do a few art projects that taught the kids about ways that they can help keep the Earth happy. Walking or riding their bikes more often, using reusable shopping bags, color on BOTH sides of the paper, Recycle, turn off the water when they are brushing their teeth, turn off lights when they are not needed, use hand-me-downs or donate your old clothes to Goodwill, and compost.

Our SUPERHEROS sure had one fun-filled day. Mrs. H really deserves a HUGE thank you from all of us. She put so much time and energy into our field trip. I can't thank her enough.

Easter Extravaganza

What a fun Easter filled day we had at school. The kids really seemed to enjoy dying the Easter eggs and putting stickers on them. Of course I was a nervous wreck worrying that at any moment one of the kids would spill and ruin their outfits. But, everyone did great and there was no staining (at least that I noticed).

The finished projects were beautiful. And the kids seemed so proud to have made the beautiful creations.

Next it was on to the Easter Egg hunt. That Easter Bunny sure new how to hide eggs. My heavens they were every where. The kids were so excited be fore we stepped out. You could almost feel the excitement fill the room. Then the door flew open and off they went to find their treasures.

Bushes were never a problem.

High up places didn't seem to stop any of them.

No hiding place seemed too hard.

And of course bending down low wasn't stopping this guy.

A little poky at times, but nothing unmanageable.

All-in-all, the kids had a blast. They were so thrilled about their buckets and all of their loot that they now had inside them. Thanks Easter Bunny for swinging by a little early to hide our eggs and create a fun Easter egg hunt. We'll see you next year.
