Going to the Dentist

On our way to Dr. Chris Keldsen's dental office for a field trip. The kids were a mixture of excitement and nerves. A few thought that they were actually going to have cavities filled and teeth drilled and worked on. After all fears were calmed and I assured that no one was getting drilled on they just became excited. We started off in our preschool "BUSES" and headed to see Dr. Chris.
After we arrived at the dental office Dr. Chris showed the kids what a dental check-up might look like. He practiced on his daughter. Dr. Chris showed the kids how the dentist would count their teeth and check for any cavities or decay.

Dr. Chris pulled up an x-ray and showed the kids what an x-ray of someones teeth looks like.
After Dr. Chris showed the kids what a dentist did it was time for them to play a little Dentist/Patient role reversal. Each paired up and one became the dentist and the other the patient. Then they switched places. The kids had so much fun with this activity. We had lots of help from Dr. Chris' staff and wife.
Each of the kids were so brave to allow another student to check inside their mouths.
Open Wide!

After role playing it was time to learn the proper brushing techniques that we should use each time we brush our teeth. Dr. Chris and Miss Stefanie had dyed hard boiled eggs with tea bags to give the eggs a dirty look. Each child then got a tooth brush with some tooth paste and they brushed the eggs in a small circular motions to remove the tea stains. This was so great for the kids to see visually how the right technique for brushing can really take the dirt off and keep their teeth white.

Miss Stefanie then talked about healthy eating and foods that are good for healthy teeth and other foods that we should avoid or eat less often. The kids were very attentive and seemed to take it all in.
Thanks Dr. Chris and Miss Stefanie. We all had such an amazing time and we learned so much. Can't wait to go home and brush my teeth.

I wish my experience of going to the dentist was as much fun.
I'm sure Dr. Chris is an amazing dentist!
(He has an amazing spike you don't want to be the recipient of!)
Mindy, your pre-school looks and sounds amazing. I'm sure parents will be lined up ready to enroll their children!
