Mexico Here We Come!

Miss Heather took us for quite the ride as we toured through Mexico. We started off by celebrating Cinco de Mayo! Miss Heather made each of us serapes and had brought Sombreros for each of us to wear to complete out Mexican outfits. We felt as though we were in the heart of Mexico mingling with the locals. What an amazing month we had learning about Mexico.

It seemed as if EVERYONE was joining in on the celebration!

Australia

We had so much fun learning about Australia. The kids really enjoyed hearing about he different animals that reside in the Australian Outback and hearing about the cultural differences.

We're Going on a Safari!

At the end of our March theme, "Going on a Safari" we went on a pretend Safari of our own. With hats on and binoculars in hand we headed out into the African grasslands to see the wild animals.

There were many silly monkeys to be seen.
We could hear the hyenas and saw them hiding in the trees and bushes. We tried to stay away from the lions so that we wouldn't become their lunch. But got just close enough to get a good look.

We were all very glad to have had our good friends with us on our Safari.

Tall giraffes towered over the trees. They were quite the sight. Snakes were slithering out of the trees. One particular adventurer got a little up close and personal. I hope she didn't get bitten.
What a fun afternoon we had out in the African Grasslands. It wasn't near as hot as we would expect it to have been, but, the animals were numerous and the children's excitement was abundant. How fun we had learning about all of these fun African animals.

African Tom Tom Drumming Group

We had such an amazing opportunity to go on a field trip to Miss Sandra's house and have an African Drumming Group come and perform for us. The kids were amazing as they listened intently and then when asked began to dance to the music. But before the drummers arrived Miss Sandra showed us some of her fun things that she had gotten while she lived in West Africa a few years ago.

Sandra is demonstrating an instrument that allows the locals to ground up wheat and other grains to make food.
The two above pieces were made on cloth. There were amazing in real life.

Finally the drummers arrived and were ready to perform for us.

After a song or two the performers asked the kids to join in with musical instruments and dancing. The kids had so much fun and really got into the show.

Some had a few more talents, like playing 2 drums at the same time.

Others decided that they might just join up with the drumming group and become a fifth member.

A few were a little more shy and kept their distance from all the noise.
We had such a great time. The members of the drumming group were amazing with the kids and the kids really seemed to enjoy the music and rhythm that was being played.

Below is a video of the drummers. I am so sorry that my camera doesn't record music. Hopefully one day I will get a better camera with that option. But they were amazing. Take my word on it.

Thank you to Devan's Aunts and their drumming group for coming in and performing for us. We had so much fun!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss

As a class we had so much fun celebrating Dr. Seuss' Birthday. We read a few Dr. Seuss books, created fun "Cat in the Hat" hats, and played a few games relating to Dr. Seuss books.

It's always a good day when we have something fun to celebrate.
